There are many shades of gray in the world, and the fact that most organized religions fail to recognize that is where organized religion, as a whole, has failed to meet the needs of the people they purport to serve. God is first and foremost a god of love and compassion. As an earthly reflection of God, it is our obligation to show that love to all. It is not our obligation to judge and condemn, and those who choose to judge and condemn will themselves be judged and condemned by their own hatred.

There is nothing to be gained by turning away those who are hurting and in need of comfort, and everything to be gained by offering love to all. I think Pastor Bob is an admirable example of this philosophy.

It is beyond sad that rather than choosing to bring salvation and the Kingdom into this world, you choose instead to create your own form of salvation and your own Kingdom. Well there's only one salvation, and one Kingdom. There is a way that seems right to a man, but that path leads to death.

Only by acknowledging that we are all in sin can the love of Jesus come in and conquer it. To deny that homosexuality is a sin, is to deny the resurrected Jesus. Jesus did not come to condemn, He came to save, but in your gospel, apparently there is nothing we need saving from, and so you turn the cross into a mockery. I guess our Lord just wasn't as smart as you are.

Paul makes it very clear that homosexuals will not enter the Kingdom of God. Those with a lust for flesh, be it homo or heteros, need to lay that lust down at the cross and walk away free. You do the homosexual the greatest injustice by offering a different gospel, one that will not lead to an eternity with the resurrected Jesus. Comfort in this world, does not equal comfort in the world to come, nor does discomfort in this world equal discomfort in the world to come.

Of course, it's abundant from your reply to Jay, above, that you put your experiences above the resurrected Jesus. Millstones and deep deep oceans come to mind.

Bob,

I appreciate you taking this controversial but so important stance on the issue of homosexuality and Christian compassion. It seems that many Christians contort themselves into the ugliest shapes in an attempt to prove how wrong someone else is. If we put that same effort into compassion and love, we'd be so much better off.
